Torres Vedras lies 46 kilometres north of Lisbon, in the middle of a plain on the left bank of the River Lizandro, protected by a hill topped by a castle.
The town was conquered by the Romans, Goths and Alans, thanks to its geographical location and the richness of its territory. The castle was crucial to the defence of the country during the French invasions, thanks to the Torres lines and the S. Vicente Fort, which dates back to that period.

Torres Vedras, the largest municipality in the Lisbon district, is a town full of charm, fertile, colourful land and history, where industry is of great importance and is home to a large number of ceramic factories, workshops, fields and agricultural farms. In recent years, this city has become an obvious choice for foreigners and Portuguese alike. Torres Vedras has a good cultural and educational offer, a low crime rate and a good reputation for its public health services.

The history of Mafra is a long journey through the ages.

It is also notable for its agricultural and wine-growing tradition, with extensive vineyards producing a pleasing variety of wines. Considered the country's wine capital and voted European City of Wine in 2018, Torres Vedras is one of the Portuguese municipalities with the greatest tradition and production of red, white and rosé wines.

The gastronomy is varied and rich, with sea and land dishes and its internationally renowned pastry, the pastel de Feijão.
You'll love its historic centre, where the narrow pedestrianised streets full of shops give you the experience of a dynamic city, in contrast to the modern world.
contrast with the modernity of the past. Its alleys, roads and footpaths always lead to a discovery, whether it's a fountain dating back centuries, a welcoming local passing through or a church in Gothic, Manueline or Renaissance style.

Torres Vedras has around 20km of coastline, with beaches of rare beauty such as Santa Cruz, Santa Rita and the wild and beautiful Praia Azul, with all the hustle and bustle of a holiday resort. There are also golf courses, equestrian centres, hotels and swimming pools, as well as the spa resorts of Cucos and Vimeiro, much sought-after for the therapeutic qualities of their waters.

The Lines of Torres Vedras: Fortifications forming part of the city's main heritage features. These lines were built secretly during the Spanish and Portuguese wars, with the aim of stopping the enemy offensive.
Forte de São Vicente de Torres Vedras: Built on one of the highest hills surrounding the valley in which the town is located, it comprised the Torres lines, a series of pits, trenches, beams and firing positions dating back to the Peninsular War.

Castro do Zambujal: A fortified village located 3 km from Torres Vedras in Portugal, whose origins date back to the third millennium BC, at the start of the Copper Age in Western Europe. Part of a larger group of similar fortifications in Extremadura (on the Lisbon and Setúbal peninsulas), it is thought to have been the most important smelting and ore-trading centre in the region.
